About SD.KFZ.2 Type 82 Kubelwagen

Bring a distinctive piece of 20th-century military motoring to your collection with the SD.KFZ.2 Type 82 Kubelwagen construction-brick model. Built in 1:35 scale from 414 pieces, this compact utility vehicle captures the practical, lightweight character that made the Kübelwagen an enduring icon of military transport. Its approachable footprint makes it an excellent addition to both focused vehicle displays and larger diorama scenes. The model combines a sturdy chassis with a satisfying, hands-on building experience. Its open utility-vehicle profile, upright bodywork, and recognizable proportions create a display piece with plenty of character while keeping the construction accessible to younger builders and experienced collectors alike. The brick-built format also makes the vehicle easy to appreciate from multiple angles, whether it is placed on a shelf, in a workshop setting, or within a carefully arranged scene. Use it as a versatile support vehicle for checkpoints, field headquarters, transport areas, convoy vignettes, or roadside dioramas. It pairs naturally with larger armor builds, infantry figures, aircraft displays, and other vehicles from the period without overwhelming the surrounding composition. Whether presented as a standalone model or incorporated into a broader collection, it adds scale, context, and visual variety to a military-themed display. Designed for builders aged 6 and up, this ThirdParty set offers an engaging project with a rewarding finished result. The 1:35 scale is especially well suited to collectors who enjoy creating cohesive scenes with compatible military models. With its recognizable subject, durable construction, and flexible display potential, the SD.KFZ.2 Type 82 Kubelwagen is a strong choice for anyone seeking a compact historical vehicle model with genuine diorama appeal.

Historical Background

The Type 82 Kübelwagen was a light utility vehicle developed in Germany around the Volkswagen platform. Its name is commonly associated with the bucket-style seating used in early versions, while the vehicle itself was designed to provide practical mobility with a relatively simple and lightweight construction. Production began in the early years of the Second World War, and the Type 82 became a widely used transport and liaison vehicle across many different military environments. Its rear-mounted, air-cooled engine and rear-wheel-drive layout reflected the engineering approach of the Volkswagen design, while its basic body structure emphasized function, ease of maintenance, and utility. Rather than being defined by heavy armor or specialized weaponry, the Kübelwagen represented the everyday transport side of military organization. Vehicles of this type carried personnel, equipment, and messages, making them a natural subject for convoy, headquarters, logistics, and roadside diorama scenes. This model interprets that practical character in a compact 1:35-scale construction-brick format.
