About Matilda Infantry Tank MK.II A12

Bring one of the most distinctive British armoured vehicles of the Second World War to your collection with the Matilda Infantry Tank MK.II A12 construction-brick model. Produced by QuanGuan, this substantial 1,211-piece set captures the tank’s unmistakable proportions, enclosed running gear and imposing turret in a rewarding display and building experience. Designed for collectors, military-history enthusiasts and creative builders, the model offers an engaging project with plenty of scope for careful assembly and close-up appreciation. Its compact, heavily armoured appearance and carefully structured hull make it a striking centrepiece for a shelf, desk or dedicated historical display. The build combines accessible construction with the visual character expected from a classic armoured vehicle model. Recreate the broad hull, detailed track assemblies and rotating turret as the vehicle takes shape, then explore the design from multiple angles once complete. The finished model has a strong, purposeful presence without relying on excessive decoration. Whether presented as part of a British military collection, used as an introduction to construction-brick vehicle modelling or given as a memorable gift, the Matilda MK.II A12 offers lasting appeal. With its generous piece count, recognizable historical subject and UK faction identity, this QuanGuan set is an inviting addition to any collector store display.

Historical Background

The Matilda Infantry Tank MK.II, designated A12, was a British infantry tank developed in the late 1930s. It was created around the infantry-tank doctrine of the period, prioritising protection and the ability to accompany advancing troops over high road speed. Its distinctive design featured a heavily armoured hull and turret, with the suspension and tracks largely enclosed by armoured side plates. The tank entered British Army service shortly before the Second World War and became one of the most recognisable British armoured vehicles of the early conflict. Its main armament was the 2-pounder anti-tank gun, supported by a machine gun, while later improvements addressed mobility, reliability and battlefield practicality. Matilda II tanks served in several theatres, most notably during the campaigns in North Africa, where their armour earned them the nickname “Queen of the Desert.” They were also supplied to Allied forces through wartime aid programmes. Although changing anti-tank weapons and the development of faster designs eventually reduced its frontline role, the A12 remains an important symbol of British armoured engineering.
