About BT-5 Light Tank
Bring a distinctive piece of early Soviet armoured design to your collection with the BT-5 Light Tank. This 1:35 scale construction-brick model captures the vehicle’s compact hull, rounded turret profile, prominent road wheels, and purposeful low-slung stance in a display-friendly format. With 392 pieces, it offers an engaging build without becoming overwhelming, making it a rewarding addition for collectors and younger builders alike. The model focuses on the recognisable character of the BT-5 rather than unnecessary decoration. Its clean geometry and carefully arranged brickwork give the hull and turret a satisfying sense of structure, while the contrasting details help define the suspension, tracks, and vehicle silhouette. Whether displayed on a shelf or incorporated into a larger military diorama, it brings authentic early-war atmosphere to an armour collection. Designed for fans of military history, construction-brick models, and Soviet armoured vehicles, this ThirdParty set fits naturally into early-war USSR lineups. The moderate footprint makes it easy to position alongside other 1:35 scale vehicles, figures, and scene accessories, while the compact design remains visually appealing from every angle. The BT-5 Light Tank is also an excellent project for builders aged 6 and up who enjoy assembling vehicles with a strong historical identity. Once completed, it becomes a versatile display model that can anchor a small scene, complement a collection, or serve as an accessible introduction to armoured vehicle modelling. Please note that this is a construction-brick interpretation inspired by the original vehicle, not a fully functional replica.
Historical Background
The BT-5 was a Soviet fast tank developed during the interwar period as part of the Red Army’s interest in mobility and rapid manoeuvre. It evolved from the earlier BT series and entered service in the mid-1930s, combining a relatively light armoured body with a powerful engine and Christie-style suspension. One of the BT family’s notable features was its ability to operate with tracks or, under suitable conditions, on its road wheels after the tracks were removed. In normal field use, the tank was generally operated on tracks, which provided the traction required for uneven terrain. The design’s emphasis on speed and mobility influenced later Soviet armoured vehicle development. The BT-5 was commonly fitted with a 45 mm main gun in a compact turret, supported by machine guns depending on configuration. While its armour was modest by later standards, the vehicle represents an important stage in the progression of Soviet tank design before and during the opening years of the Second World War.
